I see your face and your smile in my head It won’t leave if I was left for dead I’m losing faith in my mind to be led To the edges, baby, take my hand I miss the joy in your eyes everyday From your light I think I caught a wave I know for sure what it means to love for real On this earth you’ll find your way back home

Just trying to stay busy No worries Just nitrous No balloons All crown no shoulder Off this flyer Riding shotgun Getting higher Just trying to stay busy No worries Just nitrous No balloons Been looking for something So simple Metal ring Gumball machine Just trying to stay busy No worries Just nitrous No balloons When I uncross my eyes Coughed up the blood On the curb again I fed the lie I fed the lie I fed the lie I fed the lie I fed the lie

about

Explosive, juicy, joy inducing, syrupy, blooming, and effervescent; these are just some of the words to describe this impressive debut offering from Pretty From A Distance.

Produced by Turrnt Vonnegut, (known for his work with future-soul group, Brahmulus, and eclectic neo-hip-hop group, Fringe Character), Pretty From A Distance sees Turrnt step into a new role as the central face and tone of the project.

From the charismatic flute over a perfectly baked and bouncy beat on Fireworks, to the celestial vocals and woozy synth pads that give a gasoline like shimmer to the evocative What’s Up Denny’s, there is no shortage of organic textures and sounds to keep discovering. Love and longing are recurring concepts on this seven track self-titled collection. The intimate vocals on songs like Conversion give the listener images of innocent flirting, subway tile, and fresh air; music to which you could write about people writing about people eating brunch, it just feels good. However, this is not a down tempo record by any means, there is plenty of slap to the driving and bouncy beat throughout the record. Showcasing an inclination to explore moods, the record ends dramatically with Just Nitrous. Dark angelic vocals sing “…I fed the lie…” as the song burns up, as if being slowly submerged into a bath of molten iron.

This record beckons the listener to tap into new modes of consciousness, and like the name itself, Pretty From A Distance, it’s a concept that teases us, remaining just out of reach.
